People or experiences that led me to where I am

My background as a student-athlete at Morehouse College and graduate school at Temple University. Also my college head coach; I was fortunate to have many people take the time to invest in me, so there are a lot of people who have helped lead me to where I am. Also, most importantly, I feel God makes no mistakes, so He decided that this is where I’m supposed to be.

How I got into this field

As a former student-athlete in college, I fell in love athletics and what it teaches you about life. Since then I always knew I wanted to work in athletics.

What I like most about my work

The opportunity to impact student-athletes on a daily basis and help them realize their potential and maximize it.

Volunteer or other experiences you might check out to learn about my field

Challenges and exciting changes I see in my field in the near future

I feel that student development is the next big thing in college athletics. The development of student athletes will not only benefit them, but also the school in the long run. It will help with recruiting and the reputation of the school. I feel, since this is the case, universities will start investing more in this cause instead of in bigger buildings.

The kinds of training and education needed to keep up in my field

Any training that will help you with your people skills. If you are not a people person, this field is not for you. As far as education, the more education, the better.

Other career fields where my skills could be put to use

Counseling, coaching, and teaching.

How my job impacts my family life

When working in athletics, there is no such thing as a nine-to-five. I don’t have a family a yet, but I imagine it could have a major impact as far as the time I get to spend with them, unless I use great time management skills.
