  Eric Popp, Chinese Medicine Practitioner

People or experiences that led me to where I am

I became interested in healing after several people in my life became ill and died. I decided to pursue acupuncture and herbal medicine after an experience with it while living in Japan.

What I like most about my work

Being able to help people who have been suffering for a long time, or whose issues impact their lives a great deal.

The kinds of training and education needed to keep up in my field

You must attend graduate school (a master’s degree), pass national exams, and then take continuing education courses to maintain your license. A doctorate is also available with further study.

How my job impacts my family life

The most common work environment for an acupuncturist is a private practice. Therefore, hours can be longer than for a regular 9–5 job. There are opportunities to practice in more of a hospital setting, which I have done.
