Things We May Do:

Art will introduce you to the life of a firefighter or an EMT. You will tour the fire station and learn about fire trucks, communication stations, maintenance operations, equipment, and training programs. You will meet employees and have the chance to talk with them about their jobs and why they stay in this line of work. They are the first ones to show up to suppress fires, to rescue victims in car accidents or in confined spaces, and to assess safety concerns for many other accidents—from toxic waste spills to the more common fires in houses or commercial buildings. Art can also share his experiences when a few Dexter firefighters went to New York City to offer their support and help right for search and rescue efforts after 9-11.

Prerequisites

Age level: may be modified for 1st through 12th graders

Interests: helping others, health and medical fields

Previous Classes/Knowledge: basic skills, leadership and team skills
