- Career(s) Shared: Dentist, Professor
- Brief Description:
- Do you enjoy working with people? Have you thought about a career in
the medical field? You just might like to learn about being a
dentist. Dr. May is willing to come to share his career with you.
You will learn about our jaws, mouth and teeth—how they are made
to work for us all of our lives. Then you will learn about the proper
care they need to grow and stay healthy. Learn about diet and
nutrition and the impact on our teeth, about common diseases and how
to prevent them, and about accidents and injuries that can seriously
harm the jaws and teeth. You will get a chance to go over the basics
of brushing properly, flossing, and irrigating. And you will learn
about careers in the area of dentistry and about the kinds of
experience and education they require. Dr. May's specialty is
prosthodontics—making and fitting artificial devices to take the
place of real body parts! He works with people who need false teeth,
from a whole set of dentures to what they call "partials" (a plate
with a few teeth to fit snugly into the mouth), because they are
missing the real ones.
