Statement of Purpose

bar

In Ann Arbor, almost three out of four African-American fourth graders do not pass the Michigan Educational Assesment Program (MEAP) reading test. We believe that timely intervention at this receptive age can dramatically improve the record. The payoff will be future academic success and socio-economic benefit. mentor and child

We have

  • hundreds of free books
  • materials available
  • informal curriculum
  • study sites in community centers
  • "tutor training" support
  • substitutes available (for vacations, etc.)

The kids are eagerly waiting. Please contact us if you can spend 1-2 hours a week to help one child to be a better reader. The experience will be fun and rewarding for both you and the child.
